Sir Mortimer’s Dragons

Short Fantasy Comedy Film

When a homeless 11-year-old Isobel seeks out her hero,  the valiant Sir Mortimer Mosley, she finds a broken-down old man with the most bizarre affliction; dragons in his ears, gnomes between his toes and pixies in his beard.

But Isobel’s unique ability to see these creatures somehow breaks the curse and restores the Knight to his former self, a dashing knight in his prime.

Isobel hoped to become his squire, but instead, the Knight vows his sword to her.

As she discovers her hidden magical abilities, Isobel’s confidence and self-worth blossom.

Finally, for the first time, Isobel has found a family, as strange as they are.

So they set out on their first quest: to find the Knight a long-overdue bath.

Style and Approach

The storytelling style blends tropes from classic European fairy tales

with the lyrical rhyming patterns of Dr. Seuss.

The visual style combines a photorealistic 3d rendered world with stylized character designs and refined, cinematic lensing and camera movement.

The animation style combines motion capture with exaggerated “squash and stretch” keyframe animation when appropriate.

The Bigger Picture

“Sir Mortimer’s Dragons” is the first phase of a larger project: “Aeirda”, an epic fantasy adventure.

Aeirda follows Isobel and Mosley’s quest to unite the many races of this world against a common threat, a shapeshifting, ravenous alien from another universe.

Aeirda pushes the limits of the fantasy genre while exploring themes of racism, kleptocracy, and environmentalism.

This project will scale to a novel, a 6x 1 hour television series, and a video game.
